“Unseen”: a poem

In the quiet, unseen shadows
Where a heartbeat echoes softly
A soul stirs, unknown and unnamed
Wrapped in the fragile veil of innocence.

Lord, hear the silent cry
Of a life yet to breathe the air
Yet to feel the touch of a mothers hand
Or gaze upon a world filled with Your glory

In the wombs secret sanctuary
Life blooms, a whispered promise.
But beneath the cloak of “choice”
It’s deemed disposable, inconvenient

Where is your justice, O God?
In the name of rights we justify

Homicide?
No.
Genocide.

Shattering dreams
Extinguishing hope.

In the name of freedom, we silence a beating heart.

Yet You knit each one in secret.
In Your image, fearfully and wonderfully made.

Grant us Your mercy, O Lord.

For the hearts that have turned away.

I scream against the darkness
That blinds us to your creations beauty
That numbs our souls to the miracle
Of each tiny, precious heartbeat.

Let our cries ring like church bells.
In mourning and repentance.
For the ones who cannot speak.
For the innocents unheard.

Unseen.
